Son of Joseph and Sarah Swainson, of Stonecross, Kendal (Source : C.W.G.C.).

Registered on the Roll of South Africans who fell 1914-1918 edited after the War by the South African authorities.

Died of wounds on the 9th August 1916. Probably wounded by shell-fire. The 6th D.C.L.I. (43rd Brigade, 14th Light Division) was in Albert sector before its involment in Delville Wood.

Age 39.
